| | Volunteers rewarded for lasting legacy Boasting a combined 125+ years’ service to our community, the winners of Cockburn’s Volunteer Awards for 2025 have left lasting legacies in every corner of our City, from people to pets and native animals. The annual awards were held to coincide with National Volunteer Week 2025 (19-25 May) and recognise a Volunteer of the Year, a Volunteer Organisation of the Year, plus a Mayor’s Volunteer Award, with 53 organisations represented among 75 nominations. Described as an inspirational and compassionate leader, Leanne Stickland is the 2025 Volunteer of the Year, after spending more than 25 years volunteering with several local organisations and advocating for many sections of our community. |

| | Beale Park upgrades to go ahead Council approved the $15m redevelopment of Beale Park in Spearwood at the 13 May Ordinary Council meeting that follows significant community consultation and planning to meet the needs of a growing community and Cockburn City Soccer Club. The upgrades include a new centrally located clubroom with six accessible unisex changerooms plus public toilets, seven soccer pitches, new sports floodlighting, and updated carparking. Other elements of the project will include a spectator viewing and seating area, barbecue area and playground with shade structures, public artwork, the retention of all but six trees and the addition of 35 new trees to the confirmed Black Cockatoo roosting site. |

| | National Reconciliation Week in Cockburn About 500 people attended a variety of events hosted by the City including a Sorry Day weaving workshop, a guided bushwalk at Bibra Lake, flag-raising and reconciliation breakfast featuring dancers from Fremantle College, a documentary screening, and at our libraries, a series of storytelling and story times, plus a talk by Aboriginal psychologist and Jilya memoir author Dr Tracy Westerman AM. |

| | | Clean Marina status achieved For the third time, Port Coogee Marina has earned international accreditations for cleanliness and fish habitat, cementing its place as one of WA’s most environmentally responsible marinas. Awarded by the Marina Industries Association following a detailed audit in March 2025, the marina achieved an impressive 98.4% Clean Marina score and 96.15% Fish Friendly score. |
