Surprise pick: Confounding predictions, Mayor LaToya Cantrell has chosen former Oakland police chief Anne Kirkpatrick to head up the NOPD, pending approval from the City Council. Many had thought interim Police Chief Michelle Woodfork was a shoe-in for the job, but Cantrell instead chose Kirkpatrick, a lawyer and 35-year law enforcement veteran. Change of plans: The Archdiocese of New Orleans has scrapped plans to convert the former Our Lady of Lourdes School at Freret Street and Napoleon Avenue into an apartment complex for low-income older adults and has put the building up for sale.
