| | | | Hello, My name is Zeina, and I am part of the MozFest team. I attended MozFest for the first time ever last year. I, surprisingly, got to experience through my screen the physical thrill of MozFest that I heard my colleagues speak so endearingly about. The most powerful moment for me was when I attended a session on Decolonizing AI that was part of the Shifting Power in Tech Space. The session bridged my work with Mozilla that is focused on the multifaceted ways of building trust and privacy in AI and my personal passion for reclaiming power through technology. At MozFest, Spaces are an opportunity to dive deep and unpack difficult and nuanced questions about AI and the internet. The 9 MozFest Spaces for this coming year are an invitation to thoroughly explore the joys and challenges of the digital world, and to connect with others on threads that intersect with your own story, passion, and drive. Within each Space, participants can find everything they need: interactive, community-led sessions, inspiring talks, art installations, and community. What Space feels like a window into the moment you are in? How will you bring your experience to that Space in order to explore it with others? The 9 Spaces are: Sustainability & Climate Change Decolonized AI Futures Digitizing Cultures & Languages Gender, Techand Intersectionality Creating Neurodiverse Wellbeing Digital ID & Privacy Misinformation & Disinformation Rethinking Power & Ethics Youth & Futures The deadline for the Call For Proposals has been extended to November 15 at 11 AM Central European Time (click to display in your time zone). We hope this will provide more time and space to finalize your session ideas. It has been a challenging period for many of us with the pandemic still ongoing, and we hope MozFest will be a place to unwind, pause, and reset. We want to hear from you about what you need right now and how we can support you through that — write to us at [email protected]. I hope to see you in March, Zeina Abi Assy, Partnerships & Dialogue Lead Heading Towards MozFest 2022 In 2021, MozFest adapted to the moment and went online for the first time. It felt even more necessary to come together (while apart) amidst a health pandemic: to feel a sense of community, to redefine global and digital solutions, and to address the escalating disparities in the world. Dialogues & Debates: Biometric Surveillance The October panel featured Alice Munyua in conversation with Petra Molnar on the dangers of collecting biometric information and whether it's realistic to think we can ever balance biometric technology with privacy.
