Where NOLA Eats

BY ANNETTE SISCO | STAFF WRITER

Welcome back, New Orleans food fans. It's fall, and that means Oktoberfest! Those who love German food and drink are thrilled that Deutsches Haus is bringing back its popular celebration this year. Meanwhile, Louisiana oysters are gradually returning to menus. District Donuts Sliders Brew has a new location, and Saint-Germain earns a Food & Wine accolade. Let's dig in...

1. The beer is here!

It's been two years since the last Oktoberfest at Deutsches Haus in New Orleans. Now organizers are looking just a few weeks down the road and planning to host it once again. The dates are a little different this year: Ian McNulty has the story.

2. Oysters 'R' back.

With Hurricane Ida's devastation still fresh in area fishing communities, oysters have been slow to return to New Orleans menus. That's changing.

3. Wait! There's more.

The Luling fusion spot Santos is reopening. District Donuts Slider Brew will replace The Company Burger (along with other CBD restaurant news); dock-to-table supplier Mr. Shrimp keeps hustling; and restaurants and breweries plan their own "Oktober" events.

4. Is it soup yet?

After the month... year... we've had, everyone could use some comfort food like Mama used to make. Food writer Judy Walker shares her recipes for homemade chicken noodle soup, an easy sheet pan dinner, and a rich chocolate dessert.

5. And the recipe for wedded bliss is...

On a related topic, a member of our Where NOLA Eats Facebook community asked which New Orleans cookbook to give a newlywed couple. After reading 150-plus comments, she decided one wasn't enough. Check out the verdict and add your own recommendation here.

That's it for the food newsletter, but in New Orleans the food news never stops. For more, visit us at NOLA.com. Have a great weekend, and thanks for reading!
