Where NOLA Eats

BY ANNETTE SISCO | STAFF WRITER

Happy Thursday, New Orleans food lovers! This week, we welcome back the unique joy of Maypop restaurant and its fusion style. In fact, we check in on a whole raft of restaurants that are either opening or re-opening. Then, dining writer Ian McNulty can't decide between a burger and a beignet, so he just has them both at the same time. SMH! Read on...

1. Cruisin' with fusion.

Maypop opened in 2016 with chef Michael Gulotta and his team in a gleaming, window-lined space in the Central Business District. Now it's back, bringing an Italian fusion style and a palpable sense of joy. Dining writer Ian McNulty has a report.

2. The latest moves.

It's been a busy week in the local restaurant business, with openings, closings and the reshuffling of spaces. Catch up on the plans of six establishments here.

3. Dig a little deeper.

Sneaky Pickle takes over the old Maurepas Food site in the Bywater; the coffee brand Up & Adam announces its own restaurant in Mid-City; Palm & Pine looks back on an epic series of obstacles (a building collapsed across the street, for one) as it marks its second birthday; and plans are in the works for the site of the now-closed St. Charles Tavern.

4. It's a vacation in your mouth!

Crunchy slaw and tangy sauce take grilled Gulf shrimp to a whole new level, says food writer Teresa B. Day. If you like to cook at the beach, or cook like you're there, you'll love Teresa's shrimp tacos.

4. The best, dressed?

Think of the best po-boy you ever had, or the best fried chicken. Members of the Where NOLA Eats community are debating the top places for their favorite dishes. Join in here.

That's it for the food newsletter, but in New Orleans the food news never stops. For more, visit us at NOLA.com. Have a great weekend, and thanks for reading!
