Where NOLA Eats

BY ANNETTE SISCO | STAFF WRITER

Greetings, New Orleans food fans! This week, we offer up eight restaurants to try in November. Rampart Street is gaining some delicious new destinations. Small food festivals return, and an Uptown kitchen forges its own flavorful path. And there's more. Let's dig in....

1. Eat here! And here! And over there!

Before the pandemic,  Ian McNulty put together a monthly list of places he recommended for a visit. This seems like a good moment to revive that popular feature. So here's our list of eight places to try next in New Orleans. They're not all new, or even well-known — but they've all got something that interests Ian right now. We think they'll interest you, too. Find the names here.

2. The latest on Rampart?

A stretch of North Rampart Street is coming back to life, as theater returns to the Saenger and streets are reopened. On the edge of the French Quarter, a new restaurant and bar called Bijou finds a home in a historic Creole cottage with an upscale/casual style. Ian McNulty paid a visit — and he found a bit of Bayona on the menu. Here's why.

3. Wait! There's more.

The return of small food fests reminds us of what we've been missing. The fomer Meauxbar location is becoming a new bistro on Rampart Street. Top Taco 21 announces food and cocktail awards in Metairie, and the Uptown spot Mister Mao debuts with a fiercely original menu. In other news, a Jeep crashed into the courtyard of Dat Dog on Freret Street. The driver took off. “They almost hit pedestrians. Thank God we were closed and no one was here,” said marketing director Laurie G. Fisher. But we can't promise no hot dogs were harmed in the making of the surveillance video...

4. Dial up the flavor!

Food editor Karen Martin turned to the classic Junior League cookbook, "River Road Recipes," for inspiration on tasty Italian potatoes. The secret is in the marinade (always!). Get the recipe here.

5. Giving thanks.
