Freret Street's Pigeon and Whale serves a new take on seafood. Porgy's Market will open in fall from local chefs who want to offer more of the Gulf's delicious bounty. The annual National Fried Chicken Festival announces its dates, while 22 local businesses were singled out for their wine service. Finally, summer meals are simple with Chef Kevin Belton's recipes for chicken shawarma pita and avocado pesto pasta. 1. Rise and dine. Ian McNulty gets lots of questions about great breakfast spots. With new ones in town, it seemed like a good time to check out eight breakfast places that should be on your list. Plus, he's included a couple of old-school favorites. 2. New in seafood? Pigeon and Whale opened on Freret Street, serving up seafood that departs from the New Orleans norm. That extends from sourcing to prep to presentation. Ian paid a visit, and he found a lot to like. 3. Wait! There's more. Bevi Seafood has closed, and Porgy's Seafood Market is opening this fall in its Mid-City space with plans to expand the fresh Gulf fish available to local buyers. The National Fried Chicken Festival will return to the Lakefront. And almost two dozen New Orleans businesses received kudos from Wine Specatator for their wine service, with three scoring high honors. 4. Wrap it up! Pita wraps deliver for a simple and satisfying dinner. Try out Chef Kevin Belton's flavorful chicken shawarma, along with his healthful avocado pesto pasta. That's it for the food newsletter, but in New Orleans, the food news never stops. Keep up with all the inside info at Where NOLA Eats. P.S.: Want to support local journalism that matters?
