Tim has spent the week at the World Spacemodeling Championships. It was a hot week out on the field in Austin, TX. His daughter's first event didn't start out well. The first streamer flight shredded coming off the piston launcher, and was a DQ. Her 2nd and 3rd flights were OK, but not enough to come even close for a top 10 finish. But the good news is the USA team did get the bronze medal. So it wasn't a total loss. Congratulations to Sally Vineyard who took the individual bronze medal in the event! Today is the final day of competition. You can see all the results for the week at: https://2023-wchsm.enavigator.org/ This week has been pretty quiet in the offices at Apogee, due to the holiday and Tim being gone. We've had a lot of out of town visitors come in to pick-up orders and shop, which has been great. We love seeing all of you! We are also neck deep in work on our next kit, the glider (see below to help name it!). There are a lot of steps that go into releasing a kit, from concept to getting the kits to customers, and right now we are working on the instructions. We also released the Peak of Flight Newsletter 603, which took a deep dive in to selecting batteries for your electronics. Name Our Next Rocket - Win a Free Kit This is your chance to be involve in a new Apogee kit. And at the same time, you have the opportunity to win a free rocket kit! This image shows a model rocket glider kit that we're releasing soon. It needs a catchy name, and we would like your input. We based the design loosely on the military's Ground Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB), but we don't want to call it a "bomb." If possible, we'd love to use the acronym in the name somehow. But we're open to any great suggestions. What do you think we should name this cool model rocket? If we use your suggestion, we'll give you a free kit when the rocket is available (coming really soon). SUBMISSIONS DUE BY END OF DAY, JUNE 10TH!!! Additional Apogee Videos For Your Enjoyment We released two additional videos this week. These are now on YouTube and our website: Unboxing the Apogee Aspire Kit The Intro Video for the So Long New for July - Rocketry Tool of the Month - Digital Caliper
Our July Tool-of-the-Month is a digital caliper. If you're going further in rocketry, you'll absolutely need a caliper. When you're doing things like designing your own rockets, you'll be constantly measuring components. Say for example you find a tube that you want to use to build a rocket. The first things you'll need to know are both the outer and inner diameters of the tube. You'll need that so you can find the appropriate rings to build the motor mount that will fit into your rocket. You'll also need to know how long the tube is, and maybe you'll even need to make a depth measurement, such as how far into the tube to place the centering ring. From precise measurements to user-friendly features, the Carbon-Fiber Digital Caliper is a must-have tool in the arsenal of any dedicated model rocketeer. Its affordability and exceptional performance make it the perfect companion for your design and building endeavors. Elevate your model rocketry projects to new heights of accuracy and craftsmanship with our Carbon-Fiber Digital Caliper. Order yours today and embark on a journey of precision engineering! To get this caliper for free (a $11.95 value), just purchase $75 worth of Apogee's merchandise and add the coupon code at checkout on our website. This offer only lasts until July 31st. What is Coming Up Next Week? Next week is the release of the second video in the TTV building series. This video covers assembling the ebay sled, which is one of the more challenging processes in the build. I'll see you in your email in-box next Tuesday. |
