| Companies Are Pressuring Dmexco to Cancel Ad Tech's Biggest Event | |
| | Industry events have slowly been canceled as the pandemic continues to make its way throughout the world. SXSW, scheduled for mid-March, was canceled weeks before it was to take place to "mitigate the spread of the disease." The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, on the books for late June, was called off in April. Now, the fate of Dmexco (scheduled for mid-September) is being called into question as some ad-tech companies seem hesitant to participate even though Germany is lifting restrictions. The event is a costly one for ad-tech companies and exhibiting at Dmexco can cost upwards of five figures, which strikes at a time when layoffs and cuts are happening across industries. Integral Ad Science was the latest ad-tech company (as of this newsletter's writing) to see mass layoffs, but they've also been handed down in recent days to other ad-tech companies including TripleLift, MediaMath and OpenX. In other news, Facebook is becoming more relaxed with staffers working from home, celebrities are showing support to Asian restaurants and layoffs hit The Atlantic. Need a break? Take a listen to Carly Rae Jepsen’s new album. There are some real bops on there to usher in our quarantine summer. If you're able, I hope you can take the long weekend and take a step back, remember your loved ones, and find some semblance of relaxation. I'll see you again in your inbox on Tuesday.
