The 2024 Creative Nation Summit concludes Philippine Creative Industries Month | This two-day Summit, a collaboration between the British Council Philippines, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), brought together the brightest minds and leaders from across the creative industries from 30 September to 1 October at the Rizal Park Hotel, Manila City. It served as a culmination activity for the celebration of 2024 Philippine Creative Industries Month (PCIM) themed #WeAreACreativeNation. British Council Philippines invited guest speakers from the UK to share their expertise. Graham Hitchen, Director of Policy and Professor of Practice at Loughborough University, discussed how the intersection of creativity, research, and technology is reshaping the creative industries. Meanwhile Tom Kihl, Partner at The Wick and Managing Director of The Loco, explored the role of creative placemaking in transforming cities and neighbourhoods. Following the event, the guest speakers also had the opportunity to meet with other creative hub leaders and partners of British Council Philippines to explore linkages between the creative landscapes of the UK and Philippines. | | | DAKILA's Climate Story Lab Pitching held last 6 October | As part of the the "12th Active Vista Human Rights Festival: Espekulasyon," DAKILA held its Climate Story Lab Pitching on 6 October 2024 following its Climate Story Lab last 3-4 October 2024. Together with British Council Philippines, Picture People, iMedia and Rockfeller Foundation, the Climate Story Lab offers an opportunity for young creatives and advocates to tell compelling climate stories that encourage audiences to take strategic and meaningful actions towards addressing climate issues. | | | bioSignals is holding its exhibit from 8-15 October | We invite all artists and scientists to visit the bioSignals multimedia exhibit from 8-15 October 2024 at NO, Diliman, Quezon City. bioSignals is a collaborative project that bridges the three island nations of the Philippines, the UK, and New Zealand by collecting, processing, and transmitting signals in real-time from local plant life growing at each site. Two other bioSignals exhibits opened simultaneously in HartsLane Gallery in London and The Strand Arcade in Whangarei. The creative research project is a grantee of the British Council’s Connections Through Culture programme. | | | | Alexander Whitley Dance Company joins this year's FIFTH WALL FEST | We are excited to support the country's premier platform for dance films, FIFTH WALL FEST! "Edition V: The body is home" will be held this 19-20 October at the FIFTH WALL HOUSE, 35 Broadway Ave. Cor. 9th St., New Manila, Quezon City. We are supporting the collaboration between Fifth Wall and the Alexander Whitley Dance Company, a UK-based and internationally acclaimed artist-led creative studio who have been redefining the boundaries of dance for over a decade. They will be holding workshops for their groundbreaking software Otmo, a user-friendly tool that allows non-specialists to effortlessly sequence motion capture recordings in a 3D virtual space.
