el rancho district now has art thanks to teacher advocates
Durfee Elementary School in Pico Rivera, California was one of seven schools last year to receive a Judy Sleeth Scholarship to bring the Art in Action program to three of its classrooms. The school community was so impressed with our lessons that teachers advocated to bring the program to all schools in the district. Now 2,050 children in 85 kindergarten through 2nd grade classrooms receive a visual arts education. The district is hoping to expand the program to all grade levels.

We are proud to partner with El Rancho School District and grateful to the teachers at Durfee Elementary
for being awesome arts advocates. Learn about our program.
yahoo grant enables new latino art lessons
Children will create corn husk flowers inspired by Carmen Loma Garza in one of our new Latino art lessons.
Thanks to the Yahoo Employee Fund, last year we received a grant to develop three Latino art lessons with a goal of creating an entire curriculum focused on cultural understanding. These lessons will be launched September 16th, on Mexican Independence Day, at the Fiesta Patrias in Redwood City, CA.

We are thrilled to receive a second round of funding from YEF
to add to our curriculum an art/social justice lesson inspired by Brazilian artists OSGEMEOS, known for their socially and visually relevant street art. Working collaboratively, students will examine issues in society and create a poster/mural using a variety of media to affect meaningful change in their community. A special thanks to our Yahoo advocate, Laura Downs, and Yahoo employees.

art in action goes on the road
Spring has been busy for Art in Action team members who have been introducing the program to new audiences at conferences and schools.

In April we exhibited at BOOST, a national conference for out-of-school-time program providers, and at the California PTA annual convention. We have also been invited to present at schools and districts that want to learn more about our art curriculum.
