| | Women's history made in Baltimore's present “This is a man's world, this is a man's world — but it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl." — James Brown, "It's Man's Man's World" (1966) We’re days away from March and Women’s History Month, and I’m very much a citizen of the Earth who subscribes to the notion that this is a woman’s world. As a woman, there's definitely some beautiful bias with that statement. I kicked off my Women’s History Month month a tad early by attending a few events over the last weekend. First was a panel entitled "The Rise of Women in Tech," a constituent session within the Tech Summit House and CIAA Tournament Week. I entered the sub-session feeling empowered and excited to hear from inspirational tech founders and friends; I left affirmed in that initial gut feeling. The whole summit rocked. It was exciting to be in a room filled with both established and aspiring entrepreneurs and technologists. Women — like Danielle Tourain, director of OSI-Baltimore, whose work you'll read more about in my new story below —are up to some really impactful things in Baltimore City. Like Danielle Tourain, Director of OSI-Baltimore you’ll read more about the work below. I also attended a brunch this weekend at the invitation of Maggie Villegas and Sharayna Christmas over at Baltimore Creatives Acceleration Network. They partnered with Alpha Female Fest, which is curated by another good friend of mine, Cheyanne Givens — or, as you might know her, the musician Zadia. I’m super excited for another month for women to shine, just as we do 365, but I’m also looking forward to a well-programmed March.
