BY JEFF DUNCAN | Staff writer The New Orleans Saints have never been afraid to roll the dice on a player if they believe they can resurrect his career. They did it on Nick Fairley in 2016 and it paid off. They did it with Champ Bailey two years before that and it came up craps. So it wasn't out of character when they signed receiver Kevin White on Tuesday. White was the No. 7 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the same draft that produced Andrus Peat and P.J. Williams. But this is a curious signing, especially after team officials have professed their confidence in their young receiver corps throughout the offseason and the first three weeks of training camp. White has not caught a pass in NFL game since 2018 and has been released by two different teams. Is there more to the story? We'll see. Stay tuned. IN other news on Tuesday, linebacker Kwon Alexander is progressing nicely from his offseason surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon. Slowly but surely, the former LSU standout is working his way back into form. Our Luke Johnson continues to monitor the quarterback competition between Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill. This just in: It's too close to call. And I opined on "the other quarterback" on the Saints' roster, rookie Ian Book. The former Notre Dame standout has impressed teammates and coaches with his work ethic, learning aptitude and moxie. He looks like he's going to be a good one.
