The Lunch Line: What does Jazz Fest cancellation mean for Mardi Gras? And Jeff Duncan's two-week Saints report

By Bob Warren

What about Mardi Gras? What does canceling the Jazz Fest mean for Mardi Gras? Good question. Carnival guru Arthur Hardy thinks it might be a wake-up call about the seriousness of the delta variant to the unvaccinated among us.

We’re in a pandemic, so be nice: Some great advice today from Ian McNulty, our ace restaurant writer: We’re all stuck in this mess together, so let’s treat each other better. Moves by restaurants to make customers wear masks or require vaccinations have been met by some “pushback,” McNulty notes diplomatically. But it's really just an effort to stay open and keep people employed.

Duncan’s take: It’s about that time in Saints training camp where writers begin to list their observations. Columnist Jeff Duncan offers these 10 things he’s noticed two weeks into camp. Spoiler alert: Jeff thinks the QB competition between Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill is still too close to call.

Also in the news: There could be a tropical storm, Fred, in the eastern Gulf of Mexico this weekend. It's the start of school in a lot of our parishes, which means it’s also the start of quarantining. And it was revealed Monday that the Seacor Power never got word of the powerful line of thunderstorms approaching as it headed south into the Gulf of Mexico the day it capsized.

All this and much more in today’s Lunch Line. Thanks for taking a break with us.
