Non-profit West Side Market board names first executive director 

Community development expert Rosemary Mudry has been named the new executive director of the 111-year-old West Side Market. The Glenville neighborhood resident was chosen after a nationwide search for the most qualified candidate. Mudry rose to the top of the list because of her community development experience. Dewey’s Pizza is bringing back Yukon Cornelius Pizza 

Yukon Cornelius – the gruff prospector from the 1964 “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” animated classic – has his own pizza. Dewey’s Pizza is bringing it back and yes, it’s made with Yukon Gold potatoes (but not peppermint). It’s got olive oil, minced garlic, mozzarella, white cheddar, red onion, bacon, green onions and a drizzle of lemon-chive sour cream. READ MORE 

 

Cleveland Glogg is back for its 3rd year 

The Rustic Grill at StoneWater is bringing back its Cleveland Glogg for the third consecutive year. The mulled wine went on sale Friday, Nov. 24. Cleveland Glogg is billed as an aromatic, spiced, mulled wine full of citrus flavors and served warm. Glogg is a Swedish yuletide version with orange peel and spices. Best Donuts in Northeast Ohio 

Who makes the best donuts in all of The Land? Cleveland.com readers have spoken. Donut Land (located at 1321 Pearl Rd, Brunswick) topped the readers’ poll with 24.45% percent of the votes, followed by West Side juggernauts Big Mouth Donut Company (19265 Detroit Rd., Rocky River). And in third place, but first in the hearts and minds of many, was CLE legends Jack Frost Donuts (4960 Pearl Rd., Cleveland). READ MORE

Cremona, fine dining Italian, set to open in Chardon 

Cremona, a new fine-dining Italian restaurant, is opening at 109 N. Hambden St., on Chardon Square. The from-scratch restaurant will occupy the space briefly occupied by Bella Cucina. The public was invited to a soft over the Thanksgiving weekend. A full opening is scheduled for 4 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 30, the same day as Christmas Lighting of the Square. The dining rooms seats 72, while in warm weather the patio accommodates 68. Cremona is named after the city in northern Italy, from where the restaurant owners’ family immigrated. Royal Park Fine Wine, The Aviator team up on tasting  

Royal Park Fine Wine and The Aviator Event Center and Pub are holding a holiday wine tasting Monday, Dec. 11. The tasting – which is 5 to 8 p.m. – will include more than 40 wines, 10 craft beers and five Bourbons. It will include an “around the world” charcuterie spread. Bubbles Under Glass set to return to downtown Cleveland 

Sparkling-wine fans, here’s your Super Bowl: Bubbles Under Glass is set for Saturday, Dec. 2. Thirty sparkling wines and Champagnes will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. The event, which was on hiatus because of the coronavirus pandemic, is back at the downtown Heinen’s. Ed Thompkins of Heinen’s calls the event a “re-emergence.” Heinen’s is at 900 Euclid Ave., Cleveland. DETAILS

 

‘A Christmas Story’-themed dinner planned at Great Lakes Brewing Co. 

Great Lakes Brewing Co. has scheduled two dates for its annual holiday brewmaster’s dinner. This year’s five-course meal is inspired by “A Christmas Story,” the classic 1983 film shot partially in Cleveland. The brewery is holding the dinner on successive Tuesdays – Dec. 12 and Dec. 19. 5-course Daou wines dinner set at StoneWater  

The Rustic Grill at StoneWater has scheduled a five-course dinner featuring Daou Family Estates wines from California. The dinner is 7 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, is Dec. 1. Laura Miller, a fine-wine specialist with Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits, is set to talk about the wines, which will be discounted for sale after the dinner. ‘Date Nights with Degas’ combine food, music and art 

The Cleveland Museum of Art has created a date-night package that unites food, music and art. “Date Nights with Degas” are held the second and fourth Fridays of November, December and January. Visitors to the fine-dining restaurant, Provenance, can order from a Taste the Art specials menu curated to complement the special exhibit “Degas and the Laundress.” READ MORE

The Cleveland chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier is holding an online auction of food products, dining experiences and more. Proceeds benefit the non-profit organization, which benefits women in the culinary and hospitality industries. The auction ends Friday, Dec. 8. READ MORE

Flannery’s Pub: An Irish neighborhood tavern in heart of downtown 

Plenty of bars to choose from downtown, but with Cavs and Monsters seasons heating up Flannery’s makes for a great stop before a game. With a great draft list, an underrated wine list (by-the-glass French rosé - nice!) and solid menu, it’s a good place to meet up with pals before walking the one block to Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. Hola’s hidden gem is its fresh mojito bar 

Hola Tacos in Lakewood got its start as a BYOB taco shop that was one of the first in the area to serve birria tacos with consume. Now, the restaurant has expanded to two other locations on Larchmere Boulevard and in Willoughby. The flagship in Lakewood is always a go-to for tacos, but the mojito bar is not to be overlooked. Hola bartenders use guarapo, which is made out of sugarcane, and fresh fruit in the customizable rum drinks. Flavors like kiwi and raspberry aren’t achieved through artificial syrups — the bartenders are muddling fresh fruit for every order at the bar at 12102 Madison Avenue. DETAILS

 

Lucky’s Café  

When the weather is cold, it’s time to wrap your fingers around a cup of hot coffee and linger over breakfast. A great place for that is the hip Lucky’s Café, 777 Starkweather Ave., in Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood. Breakfast options will inspire return visits. Consider the Shipwreck -- baked hash browns, eggs, veggies, bacon, and cheddar cheese -- or gingerbread waffles topped with warm maple roasted apples, honeyed whipped cream, drizzled with house-made caramel and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar.
