11am and 3pm These tours, designed and led by Harvard undergraduates from a range of academic disciplines, focus on select objects chosen by each student guide and provide visitors a unique, thematic view into collections.Tours are offered every Saturday and Sunday at 11am and 3pm, from September 14 through November 24, 2019. 12:30-1pm Our galleries are full of stories—this series of drop-in talks gives visitors a chance to hear the best ones! Join curatorial fellow Jen Thum to figure out what is inside—or no longer inside—mysterious containers from across the collections. Free with museums admission. | Lecture Candida Höfer: Turks in Germany 1979 September 25
6-7:15pm Renowned artist Candida Höfer (b. 1944) is best known for her large-format photographs of vacant, sober, and highly detailed interiors. The photographic series Turks in Germany 1979 is a rare artistic reflection on the changing social and cultural landscape at the time of its making; it continues to resonate today in the face of the largest refugee crisis since World War II and ongoing debates—often centered on Germany—about migration, racism, and national identity. The work is featured in our current special exhibition Crossing Lines, Constructing Home: Displacement and Belonging in Contemporary Art.

| Art study center seminar “Avant-Garde” Ceramics in 15th-Century Korea September 27
11am-12pm Join Soyoung Lee, the Landon and Lavinia Clay Chief Curator at the Harvard Art Museums and a specialist in Korean art, to explore the bold aesthetics and the socio-economic circumstances that led to a new genre of ceramics created on the Korean peninsula during the 15th and 16th centuries. Free admission, but registration is required. A select number of spots are held for students on a first-come, first-serve basis. For more information, check our website. |
