For most of my adult life, I convinced myself I needed to lose weight in the name of my health. I’d tell everyone I was trying to be healthier while meticulously counting calories and watching every bite I put into my mouth. Obviously, this kind of behavior isn’t healthy for my mind. But a new study shows that weight loss isn’t even the “wellness solution” we think it is, from a physical standpoint. There is, however, one change we can incorporate into our lives that will help us live longer. A Minute And Change Got a spare minute? Use it to change your life. Our “A Minute And Change” series will help you become happier, healthier and more productive by doing one thing a little differently. This week’s tip comes from psychiatrist Casey Gilbert, a trainer at iFIT, on how he motivates himself when he needs to be productive:
I’d be lying if I said I don’t procrastinate. It’s sometimes difficult for me to get myself moving, but I’ve found that writing down a “to-do” list is beneficial. More than that, I specifically pack that list with things I know I’ll get done. It’s a trick I learned from Matthew McConaughey’s biography. So I’ll write “finish programming iFIT strength series” or “review Germany iFIT workout,” but I’ll also write “eat breakfast,” “put on shoes,” “do 20 pushups”... things that I’d have to actively try not to get done during the day. I’ve found that crossing off those easy items can create some momentum and get me excited to tackle the bigger projects!
