April is Stress Awareness Month and HSE has a range of resources and information to help employers protect workers from stress at work. The law requires all employers to prevent work-related stress to support good mental health in the workplace. The need to protect your workers from work-related stress, depression and anxiety falls under the provision sections 2 and 3 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.  HSE's work-related stress webpages offers various tools and support to help businesses. These include: using stress talking toolkits to help structure your conversations downloading a stress risk assessment template to develop your processes for preventing or managing stressors

Bury Metropolitan Borough Council were fined following an investigation into the incident. The worker was using a scissor lift to straighten the Christmas tree when it toppled over with him still in the basket. He suffered severe injuries in the 20-foot fall. HSE's investigation found that the council had failed to: provide the worker with any training in the safe operation of the scissor lift carry out a sufficient risk assessment for this work activity

HSE's publication covers the safe design and use of pressure systems. The Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR) aim to prevent serious injury from the hazard of stored energy (pressure) as a result of the failure of a pressure system or one of its component parts. Pressure systems are defined as: a system comprising one or more pressure vessels of rigid construction, any associated pipework and protective devices the pipework with its protective devices to which a transportable pressure receptacle is, or is intended to be, connected a pipeline and its protective devices
