| Charleston orders nonessential businesses to close Charleston City Council has passed an emergency ordinance ordering all residents to stay home and all nonessential businesses to close for the next two weeks. The ordinance goes into effect Thursday and will rely on voluntary compliance. Spoleto Festival USA canceled for 2020 Spoleto Festival USA will not happen this year in Charleston because of the COVID-19 outbreak. It had been scheduled for May 22 to June 7. The festival is expected to resume in 2021. Helping Out The tri-county COVID-19 Reponse Fund has received more than $171,000 in donations in the past five days. The total includes a $50,000 match from Trident United Way. |
