KIM'S COLUMNFor the love of Pete, no more blurry selfiesEvery week, I write two special features for major news sites like the Daily Mail, New York Post, USA Today and more. They don’t publish on their sites until next week, but because you get my free newsletters, you’re in the know first! We all snap photos like there's no tomorrow, but let's make them count. It's easy to take better pics if you know what you're doing. Look under the hoodClean that camera lens with a microfiber cloth — these are perfect for the job. No scratches, please! And get to know your specs. Switch to 4K for important videos, and try those fancy photo modes. My favorite? Portrait mode for pet, older adult and kiddo pics. Let there be light, but not too muchNatural light rocks. It's like a magic filter. Remember, don't make people stand directly under a light unless you're into harsh shadows and showing off every little bump and wrinkle. Also, face the light, folks. If you can't find the sun, find a shady spot. Cloudy days? They're the bomb for portraits — no squinting, just gleaming faces. Gorg! Stability, peopleTripods are one pro secret to getting amazing shots. They're perfect for group photos. No more balancing your phone on something and hoping it stays. This inexpensive option is a tripod and selfie stick, plus it includes a wireless remote.A top-of-the-line version has a stabilizing gimbal and is good enough for pro-quality video footage.✅ Level up your pics: I have more pro tips to help you capture perfect photos that I couldn’t fit here. 🍞 I tried to take a nice pic of the loaf of bread I baked. All the shots were just too grainy. |

DIY SECURITY TIPSigns your webcam was hackedHackers (or even some creepy chat room admins) can take over webcams remotely. It’s terrifying to think about. Know the signs in case it happens to you. The webcam light is on when you're not using it. Your light should only come on when the camera is in use.You see weird icons or unfamiliar programs on your desktop. Creeps could've installed software to access your webcam. There are unexpected pop-ups and documents in your files.Friends start receiving weird messages or emails from you. Your webcam could be compromised, and the hacker is sending and receiving data from it.There are browser extensions you didn't install. Hackers use them to access your webcam.✅ Don’t stop there: I’ve got steps on my site to lock down your webcam. |
THE INTERNET’S NOT ALL BADStorytime with GrandpaEvery Sunday after family dinner, a Utah grandpa would grab the comics and read them to his grandkids. When COVID-19 hit, he needed a distanced way to do it, so he took to YouTube. His “Grandpa Reads the Comics” channel wasn’t getting much traction — until an influential Instagrammer stumbled across his videos. The content was so heartwarming, he had to share it. It wasn’t long until Grandpa soared past 100,000 subscribers. 📺 Today, he has half a million subscribers and some of the sweetest videos you’ll see on YouTube. Watch his story here. |
WHAT THE TECH?Can’t you just hear it? “Ohhhh, Ricky!” |
UNTIL NEXT TIME ...👟 The answer: The size 10.5 sneakers that were handed out in a mid-’90s sales conference and never sold to the public cost $50,000. Steve Jobs never owned a Windows PC. In 2020, a fully operational Apple-1 computer sold for $458,711 at auction. 🎉 You see that referral link below? Grab it and pass it on like the hottest gossip to your buddy!
