Studies note that students who have proper nutrition are in a better mental state to learn, have a stronger immune system, are more apt to come to school, concentrate more, exhibit positive behavior and cause fewer disruptions. The number of homeless students attending schools in the district grew by 50 percent last year, to 17,258 students—the highest number recorded by the city. Officials also point to the increased number of homeless people in Los Angeles and nationally. Read more>>

True learning has been diminished by so much testing, teaching-to-tests, practice testing, retake testing and make-up testing. On a regular basis, gym classes lose access to the gymnasium, and students lose access to the media center due to testing.
