Dear Supporter, Sadly, the number of people affected by torrential monsoon rains and floods in Pakistan has now surpassed 33 million – with fears the situation could deteriorate further. Thank you to everyone who has donated to provide life-saving aid for Pakistan’s flood victims. With your support, UNHCR has launched a huge airlift operation to send essential supplies to people in the worst-affected areas. Our first three flights arrived on Monday, providing: 40,000 sleeping mats 15,000 kitchen sets 5,000 multi-purpose tarpaulins
Six more flights carrying aid will arrive this week. UNHCR trucks are also on the road from Uzbekistan carrying tents for 11,000 families, with more convoys scheduled.
These vital supplies are reaching people like Saleem Khan, a 25-year-old farmer whose home was swept away at 3 a.m. “We were so scared. We never saw such a scary night. We were wondering how we would cross these waters, but my father calmed us down. We left everything behind.” Luckily, Saleem’s family found higher ground and is staying in a tent provided by UNHCR. However, Saleem is already thinking about the challenge of rebuilding his home. With your help, UNHCR will be able to stay on the ground in the coming months to help flood-affected communities. Thank you for stepping up to help the people of Pakistan in their time of need. Yours sincerely,
