Dear Fiber Friend, I’ve been looking forward to Yarn Fest Loveland 2023 since I got home from the event last year. There really isn’t anything like Yarn Fest! This feast for our yarn-loving senses includes everything from world-class instructors and vendors to fun evening events with all the best people. And the yarn is amazing! This year we’re introducing something extra special—Master Classes. Instructors Terri Guerette and Kyle Kunnecke are our featured instructors for Loveland. Each instructor is taking students on a deep dive into techniques beyond the basic 3- or 6-hour classes. Plus, master class students and instructors are invited to a special dinner just for them after their first night of class. I cannot wait! In Terri’s 2-day Lace Spinning master class, students cover everything from blending board effects to spinning fine-weight yarns. While spinners are with Terri, knitters can take part in a comprehensive colorwork class with Kyle. If you’ve been admiring colorwork projects for years but feel intimidated by choosing color palettes, managing multiple yarns, and—gulp—steeking, this class is a must-take! As a special offer through Friday, March 10th you can sign up for a Master Class and get $100 off with code YFMASTER23. In the coming weeks, the content team has lots of fun extras in store for you as we ramp-up to Yarn Fest. Stay tuned for details on special events, updates on our Interweave Community Scarf, and more. Will we see you there? I sure hope so. Kerry Bogert Content Manager, Yarn Editor, Interweave Knits |

Master Class: Conquering Colorwork Kyle Kunnecke |
Dive into the world of colorwork with this immersive master class as we develop a clear understanding of how to knit colorwork both flat and in the round without tangling yarns. We will cover a variety of topics including stranded knitting, reading colorwork charts, two-handed knitting, yarn dominance, reinforcing knitted stitches in multiple methods, steeking (cutting knitted fabric), installing a zipper, and adding a fabric lining, all while creating a fun zippered notions bag. This workshop is suitable for both continental and English style knitters. All students will be encouraged to experience two-handed knitting for a portion of class. |
| Master Class: Lace Spinning Terri Guerette |
In this class, you will learn techniques that will have you spinning fine yarns before you know it! We will cover some of the different factors that determine the characteristics of your yarn, including wheel set-up, fiber preparation, drafting technique, ply, and other such topics. We’ll start with some heavier wool that may surprise you with its ability to create a lace weight yarn! Then we will move on to blending fine fibers together to create various effects, such as making matching batts, striping, and more. We will also discuss the basics of applying and removing fiber and the care and cleaning of your blending board. Lastly, you'll get to spin your newly blended fibers into beautiful lace-weight yarns! |
