Boiling, broiling, sautéed: If it seems like it’s been hotter than usual that’s because, well, it has been hotter than usual. It’s June, right? So nobody’s expecting a dry, cool breeze. But doesn't it just feel hotter? So how much worse will it get and how are we coping? Eternal street work: Drive through almost any neighborhood in New Orleans and you’re likely to see a street in some stage of construction. The city is in the middle of a $2 BILLION rehab program after all. But that program, funded by the feds, has fallen behind schedule and now Louisiana’s Congressional leaders are asking FEMA for more time to spend all that money. Botched evacuation: The state requires nursing home operators to submit a plan each year outlining how they’ll evacuate their residents when hurricanes threaten. But after a botched evacuation put hundreds of frail seniors in a squalid warehouse after Hurricane Ida last year, questions are being raised about how closely those plans get scrutinized, Blake Paterson reports.
