Protect My Public Media Day is today and we're asking you to take action.
Hi Friend, What you have helped us build is at risk. For more than 58 years, Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) has brought you local news, trusted information, and independent music. In addition to your support, MPR received about 6% of its revenue last year from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a federal funding source for public media. This funding is currently under direct threat. We’re committed to keeping MPR strong and accessible to everyone. But to do so, we need your help. Today is Protect My Public Media Day, a national day of action to champion public media. We’re asking you to participate by sharing your story and helping to secure the future of public media. Show your support by posting what public media means to you on social media using #protectmypublicmedia. Or, share MPR's posts on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Bluesky.
Defunding public media would lead to the collapse of the national public media structure. Here’s what’s at risk: Alerting communities and keeping them informed in times of natural disasters – the only local news outlet to do so in many parts of America Providing paywall-free access to important local, national, and global news Amplifying local culture, history, and music through engaging programming and storytelling Providing opportunities for communities to connect through events, forums, and on-air conversations MPR is more than just a radio station – we’re a community service, enriching lives and addressing challenges unique to our region. We are shaped by and shape Minnesota in critical ways. If public media has ever informed, inspired, or supported you, now is the time to take action.
