Have you ever tried to help a child who has lost their favorite stuffed animal? If so, you know that the entire atmosphere of the home depends upon your success or failure. Tears will be shed, sleep will be lost, and heartbreak will ensue until the distraught little one can cuddle their beloved again. While we may not throw ourselves on the floor and burst into sobs, our souls have a similarly charged longing for Jesus to come and rescue us. We are born into this world knowing that all is not yet right, and we spend our days waiting for our ultimate comfort. Although we await the day when we will cry no more, we do so with a hope that is tethered in the truth: “we are not looking for the Lamb anymore.” Jesus was our perfect sacrifice, ensuring that the day that our deepest longings will be fulfilled is coming to us. May this Christmas season be one of joyful anticipation rooted in the certainty that we are no longer looking for our comforter—He has found us.
