Living Building Challenge Information Session 

Join Ken Long as he introduces the Living Building Challenge, a certification program that measures sustainability in the built environment. Imagine a building designed and constructed to function elegantly and efficiently: a building adapted to its climate and site, that generates all of its own energy with renewable resources, and captures and treats all of its water. Ken’s talk will include case studies of Living Buildings in Australia and around the world, and discuss how we can create Living Buildings in South Australia.

Living Building Conversations #7 - Sustainable Materials 

This session will be unpacking the Materials Petal of the Living Building Challenge. The intent of the Materials Petal is to help create a materials economy that is non-toxic, ecologically regenerative, transparent and socially equitable. LBConversations is a discussion series that brings together a panel of Adelaide professionals in a Q&A type format to break down specific principles and requirements of the Living Building Challenge.

Christies Beach: Beach Clean Up 

The Sea Shepherd Marine Debris Campaign is hosting another beach cleanup. They have requested that attendees bring strong gloves, buckets and tongs to collect the rubbish with, but there will be some available to borrow on the day.

Please reply to this email if you would like to join SENG SA after the event to discuss the role engineers can play in the lifecycle of the rubbish ending up in our oceans; let us know if you have expertise in this area and would be willing to give a formal presentation.

Let's Talk About Consumption

The Australian Earth Laws Alliance (AELA) and the Conservation Council of South Australia are hosting an interactive workshop to discuss the problems caused by unsustainable consumption and map out collective strategies for reducing consumption in Australia.

This is the second in a national series of workshops and publications being coordinated by AELA as part of their "Living within our Ecological Limits" Program. The ideas, case studies and recommendations generated by participants will form part of a major publication series, aimed at supporting civil society initiatives and influencing public policy.
