Hooray Back to Level One Yes we are at level 1 but the Ministry of Education is encouraging schools to maintain some protocols. Please continue to stay home if you are sick and get tested if recommended to do so. Maintain good hygiene practices. Scan into places through the NZ COVID Tracer app or keep a good record of where you have been, to support speedy contact tracing. We have noticed only a few parents doing this. PLEASE KEEP SCANNING THE COVID TRACER. IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO DO SO PLEASE SIGN IN AT THE OFFICE OR THE POD YOU ARE VISITING. We need to get used to doing these extra things if we are to live normal lives alongside this unpredictable virus. Please click here to read clear information from the MOE on Alert Level 1 and related protocols. Swimming Programme We so love driving the children to swimming in our school vans - they are excited before the lessons and just as excited afterwards with the new things they learn each day. Well done to the swimming coaches at the pool - we are very impressed with the small group sizes and numbers of coaches there to support our tamariki and also the fabulous coaching that is happening. You are all tumeke swim staff at the pool, thanks for the great work you are doing. Nathan Wallis Last week the leadership team spent an awesome day listening to the sensible, pragmatic approach Nathan has to brain development and teaching children. We have heard him speak before but still learnt heaps. We aim to get him, as well as other speakers who are 'experts' in raising and teaching children to share their thinking with parents and staff alike next year. Nathan will be top of the list. KAPAHAKA group Performance last week Wow! They are amazing. Last week our Kapahaka group, along with whaea Anne and whaea Beth and Gary Hape, a wonderful dad who has also been supporting our tamariki, performed a very polished and emotional few songs in front of their parents. This was recorded and will be sent away to be part of the Central Lakes District online Kapahaka festival. I was so impressed not only with the beautiful waiata but also with the precision and excellent timing of the actions. I think it has been one of the best performances I have seen for primary school children, well done to our three mentors and teachers who made this happen. Whaea Mary-Ann was sent a copy last week and it brought her to tears, it was so spine tingling and precise in its performance. Kapahaka group ...you rock! The video of the performance can be found on our website in the parent portal. Statements Regarding Upcoming Referendum Statements made by Perry Rush on Q+A with Jack Tame on Sunday's programme pertaining to the upcoming referendum are not representative of all Principals. This is an inappropriate forum to push politics or political opinions and suggest doing your own research to ensure you are educated and informed for the upcoming referendum. School Holidays and Beyond Only 3 days left of a very busy term. Please come in and check out the lost property if you are missing any of your children's school clothing and make sure the children take home anything they need for the school holidays, including their own devices. Katie starts her maternity leave in week 3 (27th October) and we wish her the best and thank her for her great teaching in Pod 6 and her leadership of digital technologies and look forward to meeting baby Anderson. Carin Hetherington will be teaching Room 24 for the rest of the year. Andrena and Jill are job sharing our group of 5 year olds who start day 1 in term 4. Have a great break as the children deserve it as they have been fabulous all term. Teachers, including myself are also a bit ragged around the edges as the term has gone quickly but in retrospect the terms seem longer after lockdown. Many staff, teachers and teacher aides are involved in online professional learning over the holidays but at least can do it without travelling kilometres to do so. Happy holidays everyone. |
