Yesterday, we were honored to host Nadine Strossen, a New York Law School professor and former ACLU president, for a spirited discussion on free speech. The event featured an engaging Q&A session. Today, I visited the Colorado Christian University campus to give two presentations: one in the Children's Literature class and the other in Educational Psychology. Future teachers should learn how public policy affects what they teach. Public policy is shaped by those who win elections, and today's election results will influence future education policy. I've always enjoyed conversations with people who have different perspectives and backgrounds than my own. Last week, I had the privilege of attending a conference hosted by the Coalition for Empowered Education. This multi-ethnic coalition has many members holding classical liberal views. They advocate for pluralistic ethnic studies and aim to counter the spread of radical agendas in the classroom. The conference took place in California, where a semester course in ethnic studies is required for graduation. Those who advocated for the legislation are now working to bring their extremist curricula into the schools. I met Diana Blum, a California neurologist whose family immigrated to the United States from the former Soviet Union, seeking the freedom to express their Jewish faith without persecution. Now, her family is experiencing antisemitism. Her story is featured in Killing America, an Eli Steele documentary investigating the rise of antisemitism in Bay Area schools. (Click on Killing America and then scroll down the X post to find the 38-minute film.) I also met Jason Littlefield, a long-time Texas educator who has developed Empowered Human Theory. Jason watched the development of the DEI and SEL movements within the public school system. He believes they are destroying society by using identity politics and social justice to reshape our culture. Jason’s organization is EmpoweredED Pathways. Jason trains teachers on how to empower healthy minds in their students. - Pam Benigno, Director of Education Policy Center
Yesterday, Complete Colorado published my article Herman: Reject tax hikes, bans on Colorado ballot, where I argue against measures on this year’s ballot that seek to restrict “unfavorable” behaviors. When these types of measures are passed, it is the government that always wins and Coloradans who lose. -Nash Herman, Policy Analyst
