OPENINGS/CLOSINGS Witch Doctor apothecary-inspired cocktail bar to open in Old Brooklyn The Witch Doctor is coming to Cleveland’s Old Brooklyn neighborhood this spring. The apothecary-inspired bar will take over the former Sticks and Stones Social Lounge at 3314 Broadview Rd, Cleveland. Owners Matt Luebert and brothers Charlie and Mike Eby want to create a “mystical cabin in the woods” feel and serve craft cocktails influenced by botanical cures. They are not offering medicinal beverages but working with historical spirit combinations. PICKS OF THE WEEK Naomi’s Recipes On a wintery cold day, you’ll find all the comfort food you can eat at Naomi’s Recipes in Lakewood. Just over the Cleveland border, the small restaurant promises Mississippi-inspired cuisine with a Cajun twist. Think fried green tomatoes, catfish, fried chicken, grits, collards, macaroni and cheese and peach cobbler. The chef/owner claims the secret ingredient is “love,” but we’re pretty sure she’s just really good in the kitchen. The catfish was too good to even use tartar sauce. And let’s just say: Best. Grits. Ever. DETAILS – Paris Wolfe Little Polish Diner Little Polish Diner in Parma is the ultimate place to diner on authentic and homemade Polish food anytime of the year. However, its hearty menu items are even more comforting on a blustery winter day. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, but its entree dishes like the Tour of Poland featuring kielbasa, sauerkraut, stuffed cabbage, pierogi and green beans. Cheese Blintz “Nalesniki” and potato pancakes are also a must. Little Polish Diner is at 5772 Ridge Road in Parma. DETAILS – Alex Darus Fat’s Backroom Fat’s Backroom is located in Todaro’s Party Center, offering a fantastic Italian menu and wine list. A nibbler of fried artichokes hit the spot, as did mushroom ravioli for dinner. It also has a state-of-the-art Steinway player piano to offer a backdrop of songs as you dine.
