Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Debra J. Saunders

Reporter Debra J. Saunders of the Las Vegas Review-Journal scored a one-on-one with President Donald Trump over the weekend, and it went very well.

Saunders has several very good questions, and at one point, confronted President Trump about the risk of contracting the potentially deadly contagion, asking “Aren’t you concerned about Covid though in an enclosed room?” President revealed that he was not concerned, and when pressed, provided a potentially revealing answer.

“Because you know why? I’m on a stage, and it’s very far away,” Trump said. “And so I’m not at all concerned.”

AP’s Jonathan Lemire and Ken Ritter reported that few of the rally-goers wore masks followed the CDC’s social distancing guidelines. When Trump began to speak, however, campaign officials asked attendees that were standing behind him (and on television) to don masks.

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak (D) has been harshly critical of the Trump rally for ignoring both Nevada’s state advisory for events and the Trump administration’s own public health guidelines, something Saunders brought up specifically.

It was a revealing interview, and it was expertly handled by Debra Saunders. An example of how effective local media really can be

MEDIA LOSER:
Peter Navarro

CNN’s Jake Tapper abruptly ended his interview with White House adviser Peter Navarro after repeatedly confronting him and clashing with him on Trump's admission to Bob Woodward about downplaying the coronavirus.

In fact, it was quite a spectacle.

Tapper played the audio of Trump acknowledging to Woodward on February 7th that it’s more deadly than the flu — something at odds with public comments he was making in the following weeks.
Maybe Brennan should have his own checked out.

“Less than two weeks later, he was saying the exact opposite,” Tapper said. “He was misleading the American people, why?”

From that point, Navarro's hostility and discomfort grew at an exponential rate.

“Jake, not fair here. Let me finish here,” said Navarro at one point, and several other versions of that sentence a few other times.

“You’re not answering my question,” Tapper repeatedly pointed out.

Navarro lashed out at CNN a few more times and Tapper told him again he wasn't ansering the question.

He then cut the whole thing off, with a closing comment made it all worth it and revealed Navarro as today's loser.
