Deadline to submit articles (photos encouraged) is 3 p.m. the Friday before publication. Becker selected for Clarinetfest performance this summer Daniel Becker, DMA, assistant professor of music, has been accepted to perform at Clarinetfest 2019, the annual conference of the International Clarinet Association. Becker's interest in the music of women composers has led him to perform a lesser-known work by French composer Augusta Holmes at the conference, to be held July 24-28 at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Stricklin named ‘Difference Maker’ Kari Stricklin, director for student center/student activities, was presented with the “Difference Maker” award for Oct. 2018. She was nominated by facilities services. Her nomination read, “Kari works with many members in our department. She is always very friendly to our staff and willing to work with us to overcome any issues we run in to. Not only is she great to our staff, she is amazing with the students. A lot of times Kari is here burning the midnight oil to make sure activities run smoothly and the students are taken care of.” Congratulations, Kari! Hoeper and Wittenburg named ‘Student Employee of the Month’ Liz Hoeper, student worker for facilities services, and Marah Wittenburg, student worker for athletics, have been named “Student Employee of the Month” for Nov. 2018. Both were nominated by Diane Olson who they work with at the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse. Hoeper's nomination read, “Liz Hoeper has worked for me for about 4 years. She has been here in the summer when I am gone and has planted flowers with me all over campus for the last 2 summers. Liz knows the routine of the fieldhouse and helps me keep everything under control. Thanks Liz for all your dedicated work and loyalty.” Wittenburg's nomination read, “Marah Wittenburg has been with me for 2 years during the school year and is a delight—show her once and she has it. Marah will look for things to do—now knows the system (we have a lot of schedules to adhere to). If I say that something needs doing, we get right to it and do it right the first time. Thanks Marah for always being on time and ready to do it all.” Congratulations, Liz and Marah!
