Students create art installation in McCarthy Angela Mircsov’s Intro to Art students have created temporary installations of simple, eye-catching designs using painter’s tape in McCarthy Hall. The installations can be viewed on first and second floor McCarthy through Dec. 7. Feel free to share photos of the installation on social media using the hashtag “#VCSUart.” Russi participates in Cleveland Comedy Festival Jenni Lou Russi, M.F.A., associate professor of communication arts, participated in the 11th annual Cleveland Comedy Festival in Cleveland, Ohio, Nov. 15-17. The festival selects comedians for participation through a peer adjudication process; the participants are not paid for their performances. Russi performed in three comedy showcases at the festival and also participated in industry sessions, including a panel discussion for television writing. Prior to joining the VCSU faculty, she toured nationally as a professional comedian. Mircsov elected to ITI board Angela Mircsov, M.F.A., assistant professor of art, has been elected associate vice president of communications on the Integrative Teaching International (ITI) Board. She will serve as ITI’s representative to the Mid-America College Art Association. Integrative Teaching International identifies innovative approaches to higher education in the arts and creative practices by linking educational theory to practice.
Da Vinha and Dutton sign book contract with Peter Lang Publishing Associate professors Luis da Vinha, Ph.D., and Anthony Dutton, Ph.D., of the Social Science Department have signed a contract with Peter Lang Publishing to write a book titled “Three Approaches to Presidential Foreign Policy-Making in the Twenty First Century: The Director, the Magistrate, and the Maverick.” Da Vinha and Dutton will employ the presidential management models developed by Richard Tanner Johnson and Alexander George to analyze how presidents George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Donald Trump managed their foreign policy decision-making systems. A framework of questions will be used to compare the presidencies in regard to foreign policy: 1) What is the role of the president in the advisory system? 2) What is the role and relationship amongst the advisers in the advisory system? 3) What are the procedures for managing the advisory system? 4) What is the general dynamic of the decision-making process? The book, available in early 2020, is part of Peter Lang’s new series “The American Presidency in the 21st Century.” Viking sports update Women’s Basketball Tuesday: VCSU 67, Bemidji State 61 (exhibition) Friday: Montana State-Billings 79, VCSU 52 (exhibition) Saturday: Carroll College 69, VCSU 58 The Viking women’s basketball team is now 3-5 overall after a weekend trip to Montana.
