Hi friends, Of course, it’s absolutely tragic that a 10-year-old in Texas just died from measles—the first U.S. measles death in a decade. But what’s even more alarming? RFK Jr.'s downplaying of the entire event. This is our Secretary of Health who has more influence on our country's health policy than anyone else, despite his track record of spreading misinformation about vaccines—including the debunked claim that they cause autism—along with other dangerous conspiracy theories that are bound to cost more lives. And let’s not forget his recent attack on SSRIs—medications relied upon by over 30% of Americans. Seriously, how is this our reality? We've already spoken ad nauseam about the need to normalize mental health issues. But, now seems like a good time to shout out to this collection: |
| Ok. What else? I’m sure by now you’ve seen the videos from the town hall in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. A woman exercised her right to speak up—exactly what town halls are meant for—and was violently dragged out by unidentified men in black. You really have to see it to believe it. The speaker’s comments, calling her a “little girl” and saying, “She spoke up and now she doesn’t want to suffer the consequences,” are chilling. It’s dark. And it’s genuinely terrifying. I'm sure you've also seen the news about how Trump's new White House will now choose which journalists are and are not allowed into the White House to to cover Trump. I didn’t even know that was possible. This move shatters the precedent and, as many have pointed out, “tears at the independence of a free press in the U.S.” It suggests a future where the government chooses who reports on them. In a truly free country, leaders don’t get to handpick their press corps. Oh, and if you’re still subscribing to the Washington Post, it’s probably time to reconsider that. Nothing about any of this is normal. History is indeed watching. |
| Luckily, I truly believe in the power of the people. And there are still those out there doing everything they can to hold truth to power. Did you catch Jane Fonda’s epic speech at the SAG Awards last weekend? Give a damn has been our motto from day one, and Jane embodies that spirit like no other. She has walked the walk and talked the talk since day one, never backing down. |
| Yes, times are dark. But people have power. And even now, there’s hope to be found along the way. Case in point? There’s an actionable—and hopefully, fairly simple—way you can show your resistance to this administration: join tomorrow's economic blackout that so many are talking about. Our collective power as people is real, and now is the time to exercise it. See you back here this weekend. xo, Rachelle |
