BY ANNETTE SISCO | STAFF WRITER Happy Thursday, New Orleans food lovers! This week we take a look at the impact of the city's new rules requiring restaurant patrons to show proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID test at the door. We get a first look inside Alon Shaya's new restaurant in the Four Seasons, and Ian McNulty takes a dinner staycation. That's not all! Let's dig in... 1. Mandate news. Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced rules requiring restaurants to ask indoor diners for COVID vaccination proof or a clean test result. Some managers saw reservations canceled, while others worried about how to implement the screenings on short notice. Enforcement begins Monday. We take a look at reactions here. 2. River views. Visually stunning, with ambitious menus that flow from chef Alon Shaya's love affair with Louisiana foodways, the new Miss River in the Four Seasons offered us a peek inside. "This restaurant is a dream for me," Shaya confessed, as he showed us around. Check out the menu. Oh, and the gorgeous setting... 3. Wait! There's more. When you long for a break, dinner out can be a meal-sized staycation. Ian McNulty found his own date-night haven here. A Food Network alum brings Latin fusion to the River Parishes; Banh Mi Boys is moving into the old Reginelli's on Magazine Street; and New Orleans festivals celebrating fried chicken and beignets are canceled as the delta variant of COVID rages on. 4. Pho real? For a restorative comfort food, look no further than the Vietnamese noodle soup, pho. But where to slurp the very best? Chime in on our Where NOLA Eats Facebook page. 5. Pasta shrimp, please! Looking for a simple seasonal brunch dish? Corinne Cook's Summer Shrimp Pasta Salad fits the bill with spicy flavors and a creamy, cool dressing. Get the recipe here. That's it for the food newsletter, but in New Orleans the food news never stops. For more, visit us at NOLA.com.
