⚠️ Winter Weather Advisory

The snow has come, and it's sticking around. Fox Weather is calling it a winter storm superhighway, and the storm will continue into the weekend. Drive cautiously if you have to leave home!

Utah lawmakers say they’re creating national model for ‘positive’ DEI alternative

Two Utah lawmakers released the initial text of a bill seeking to overhaul diversity, equity and inclusion programs at public universities in the state.

The bill titled “Equal Opportunity Initiatives” was introduced on Thursday by Rep. Katy Hall, R-South Ogden, and Sen. Keith Grover, R-Provo. The bill authors say it would prohibit “discriminatory” DEI practices, including diversity statements in job applications, would reaffirm institutional neutrality on college campuses and would fund student success centers that avoid differential treatment among students.

“We’re really hopeful that this is a positive bill and that it’s taken as a positive thing,” Hall told the Deseret News on Wednesday. “There’s been a big collaboration on getting that language just right to still capture all the things that DEI traditionally has wanted to capture but seems to be not quite capturing.”

Dr. Angela Dunn, who guided Utah through early pandemic, is leaving SLCo Health for CDC

Dr. Angela Dunn is a very familiar face to Utahns. She guided the state through the intense early days of the COVID-19 pandemic in her then-role as state epidemiologist, and now she has accepted a role at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“I’m most proud of creating a team culture of collaboration, compassion and open-mindedness," Dunn told the Deseret News.

Dunn will remain in Utah as she assumes her role at the CDC.

What Does it Mean to Dare Mighty Things?

Dare Mighty Things: (v) the act of courageously attempting to do big and audacious things that make you uncomfortable, that stretch you, and allow you to grow, even as you experience failure and doubt along the way. Daring Mighty in little and big things is not an act but a habit toward excellence.

Utah made mincemeat of UCLA — and made some history in the process

On Thursday, the UCLA Bruins — one of the most storied programs in college basketball history — visited the Huntsman Center for the last time as a member of the Pac-12 Conference. The Bruins will be moving on to the Big Ten, while Utah will join the Big 12.
