The 2025 Senior Health Report by United Health Foundation listed Utah as No. 4 for senior health, but there are still challenges.
For older adults, Utah is the very best on several measures: risk of social isolation, volunteering, use of hospice care at end of life, not smoking and not drinking excessively.
But the report also noted persistent mental and behavioral health challenges for older American adults. Drug-related deaths (both prescription and not) have increased, as have suicides. Poverty is up, while falls and obesity have remained the same in recent years.
Lois M. Collins spoke with several health experts and Utah seniors on what people can do to stay physically and mentally healthy as they age. The consensus? Staying active, connected and engaged make all the difference in enhancing your later years.
