"You just don't want to believe it until you see it," he said. He should have believed his friends. The Republican carried 68.3% of the vote compared to Democratic rival Darren Parry's 31.7%. Money wasted in many campaignsBy LaVarr Webb I was among the nearly 60% of Utah voters who cast a ballot for Pres. Trump. The president won a lot more votes in Utah than I expected, and I suspect a lot of Utahns, like me, had to hold their noses a bit as they marked their ballots. I've written many times of my concerns about Trump's demeanor and character, but I had even deeper concerns about the Democrats taking over the entire federal government and what that might mean for the country. I also believe, and still do, that Trump accomplished a great deal and the country was on a good path until the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Unfortunately, Trump's successes were overshadowed by the daily (even hourly) senseless sideshows he created. Policy News Economic analysis: Resilience emerges in the labor marketThe US labor market showed surprising strength in the October report just released, with 638,000 jobs added last month. The unemployment rate also reflected strength, dropping to 6.9% in October, from 7.9% in September. And labor force participation increased to 61.7%, at the high end of expectations. While the economy remains constrained by the COVID-19 pandemic, the October jobs report reflects an encouraging resilience in the US workforce. Updated state of emergency and public health order Following the announcements of new restrictions designed to curb the spread of COVID-19 in Utah, Gov. Gary R. Herbert and the Utah Department of Health have released updated orders which clarify several points of confusion.Under the new orders: 1. Bars and restaurants may not serve alcohol after 10:00 p.m. but are permitted to remain open. 2. Athletic events run by private companies, such as dance and karate classes, are permitted to continue if certain attendance, mask wearing, and physical distancing requirements are enforced.View the State of Emergency order HERE.
