This week we profile Peter Reichard, president of the Utah Foundation, an independent, nonpartisan research organization.Education: Loyola University (BA); Fordham University (MA). Growing up: I grew up in New Orleans in a family with four boys and a girl. I was the second youngest. I loved growing up as part of an army of kids. Our parents taught us to appreciate music, literature, and architecture. Our house was a constant renovation zone and the center of activity for neighborhood kids. My dad was a history professor and college administrator; my mom was a psychologist.

Who says Utah's economy is struggling? You certainly wouldn't know it considering the big projects just finished or underway that will bring jobs and economic growth. Someone obviously has faith in Utah's future. The first phase of the brand new Jake Garn Salt Lake City International Airport (well, the name isn't actually official yet) opens today. It's hard to overestimate the importance of the airport to Utah's economy. Travel will eventually come back, and the new airport will be an immense asset.
Meet Utah's federal delegation with SL Chamber

Major efforts kicked off Monday for one of the most significant economic development opportunities in Utah history. State and local officials announced the hiring of a nationally recognized planning expert and initiated the master planning process for the 700 acres of state-owned property at the Utah State Prison in Draper. They also released a statewide survey to solicit public input that will help to guide the process.

Utah Inland Port Authority (UIPA), a political subdivision of the state of Utah, and a public corporation, has announced an exclusive 3-year deal with technology marketplace and online platform Warehouse Exchange to fill under-utilized warehouse space across the state. The program will roll out over the coming weeks and calls for UIPA to facilitate platform access for the 220 million square feet of warehouse space spread across Utah's Wasatch Front.
Utah elections office clarifies misinformation from Postal Service
The Office of Elections has issued the following statement related to a postcard sent to Utah households containing misinformation about the state's mail-in ballot process: Last week, the United States Postal Service (USPS) mailed a postcard to Utah homes concerning the upcoming General Election. Unfortunately, the postcard contains a recommendation which does not reflect Utah's current voting rules.
Utah County Commissioners seek candidates for UTA Board of Trustees
(PROVO) The Utah County Board of Commissioners seeks qualified applicants to consider for nomination to serve a four-year term on the Utah Transit Authority Board of Trustees. Each nominee shall be a qualified executive with technical and administrative experience and training appropriate for the position. The Commission will nominate two applicants to Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert for appointment to the UTA Board of Trustees, one of which will ultimately be placed for confirmation by the Utah State Senate.
Updated public comment process for Legislature electronic meetings
Due to COVID-19 health concerns, the Utah State Legislature has held interim committee meetings electronically and taken public comments remotely. This pattern will continue; however, the process for participating has been significantly improved.

1890 - Mary Clarissa Agatha Miller, later known as Agatha Christie, is born in Torquay, Devon, England. She writes some 80 novels, 30 short story collections, 15 plays, and six romance novels. By the time of her death in 1976 more than 400 million copies of her books had been sold in more than 100 languages.

1940 - The tide turns in the Battle of Britain when the Royal Air Force downs 56 invading German aircraft in two dogfights lasting less than an hour.

1962 - Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons earn their first #1 hit with "Sherry." It took most of a decade to achieve their breakthrough.

1963 - Four black schoolgirls are killed and 20 other people were injured in a Birmingham church bombing. The 16th Street Baptist Church had served as a meeting place for civil rights leaders like Martin Luther King, Jr. Robert Chambliss, a Klan member, was eventually convicted and sentenced to life in prison. Two others were convicted years later.

1978 - Muhammad Ali wins world heavyweight championship for the third time in his career, defeating Leon Spinks at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans. Ali becomes the first fighter to ever win three titles.
