Consumer confidence rose in September to nearly an 18-year high. The Conference Boardâs index climbed to 138.4 in the month, exceeding analystsâ expectations and higher than Augustâs 134.7. âThe September reading is not far from the all-time high of 144.7 reached in 2000. Consumersâ assessment of current conditions remains extremely favorable, bolstered by a strong economy and robust job growth,â Lynn Franco, director of economic indicators at The Conference Board, said in a statement.
