| News and Features | Updates to the Pneumocystis Pneumonia Section of the Adult and Adolescent Opportunistic Infections Guidelines The Pneumocystis Pneumonia section of the Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Opportunistic Infections in HIV-Infected Adults and Adolescents has been updated. The panel updated references for stopping PCP prophylaxis in patients with CD4 counts between 100 and 200 cells/mm3 and plasma viral loads below the detection limits of assays. The panel also updated references for Pneumocystis-associated IRIS. Wording throughout the document was updated to improve clarity.
April 10 is National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness Day According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), youth 13 to 24 years old accounted for 21% of all new HIV diagnoses in the United States in 2016. CDC reports that at the end of 2015, an estimated 60,300 youth were living with HIV in the United States. April 10 is National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness Dayan annual occasion to highlight the impact of HIV/AIDS on young people and to recognize their efforts to help achieve an AIDS-free generation.
