| | Things to do before the Stay At Home Order starts today. At 5pm today, Governor Pritzker is initiating a Stay At Home Order for Illinois. The state has a list of FAQs should you have any questions. Below are a few quick things you might want to think about beforehand:. Sort your meal prepping recipes for the week. Below, we've provided two more. Gas up the car while the prices are low. Walk the dog, wave to the neighbors, and check on the elderly in your area. If the grocery lot is too full to be safe, you can always use Instacart to order groceries delivered at a later time. We've also noticed that some neighborhood produce stores are not very busy and have plenty of lovely produce while big grocery chains are running out. And don't forget pet food, litter, pee pads, and medicines. Chewy is out of some items so you'll have to search Amazon and perhaps swing by a pet store. Set up your favorite charity with the smile.amazon.com URL to donate a portion of what Amazon makes. Some drugstores are offering free delivery at this time. Check out CVS and Walgreens. Take stock of your home office if working from home. If you're running low on something, like paper, you should be able to order that later. Staples has eliminated their delivery fees for the time being, no minimums. Order early and take a deep breath. Most places are running behind on delivery times but items should arrive. Be sure to read the notices from your favorite merchants and plan accordingly. And don't panic. Remember, many restaurants, including ourselves, are still providing delivery to home-bound folks. Many of our menu items can be frozen for use later. Our own delivery hours are 12pm to 8pm daily until March 30. And our delivery zone is still extended thanks to Caviar. |

Caviar Delivery service daily, 12PM to 8PM until March 30. Caviar has extended our delivery range up to 10-miles of our locations. Please check your app to see if you're within range. More delivery details are available on our website. Also, Caviar is waiving delivery fees for us at this time but please don't forget to tip your drivers. They rely on tips the same way our wait staff does within our restaurants. Note about carryouts and curbside pickups. Out of an abundance of caution for our staff, we are not offering carryouts or curbside pickups at this time. Thank you for your understanding. |

Brunch recipes. Today's breakfast recipes are from our original cookbook which, unfortunately, is out of print. First up is our original Diner Hash recipe from way back. Our current Potato Tempeh Hash that we serve in our restaurants is based on this recipe. While we've made tweaks over the years, this will get you started with something hearty for breakfast or brunch. We serve it in our restaurants with biscuits, gravy, and scrambled tofu. Diner Hash Yield: 4-6 services Ingredients: 8 ounces tempeh, cubed 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 2 teaspoons tamari 2 tablespoons oil 1 cup diced onions 1 cup dices bell pepper 4–6 baked potatoes, peels and cubed 2 teaspoons fennel seeds ½ tablespoon oregano pinch dried red pepper flakes ½ salt ¼ black pepper Directions: Preheat over to 350°F. Toss the tempeh with the 1 tablespoon vegetable oil and tamari. Spread the tempeh on a cookie sheet and bake for about 15 minutes In a large skillet, heat the 2 tablespoons oil. Add the onions and pepper. Cook until onions are translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the potatoes, herbs, and tempeh and cook 2 to 3 minutes more. Adjust spices to taste. Serve warm. Baker's Note: You can substitute soy sauce for the tamari but taste the results before adding salt. Soy sauce can sometimes be a bit more salty than tamari. Scones Easy to make. Serve with a little jam when fresh and warm. Yield: 6-8 servings Ingredients: 1½ cups unbleached flour 1½ cups whole wheat pastry flour 4 teaspoons baking powder 5 tablespoons sugar, we use turbinado ½ teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon cinnamon 8 tablespoons margarine, we use Earth Balance® brand ½ cup currants or raisins 1 cup soy milk 1 tablespoon lemon juice Directions: Preheat over to 375°F. Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl. With a pastry cutter, cut in the margarin until blended well. Add the raisins or currants. Make a well in the center of the dry mix, pout in the soy milk and lemon juice and quickly mix by hand. The batter should be sticky. Pour it out onto a floured board or counter top and knead lightly 1 minute. Let the batter rest a few minutes, then roll out with a rolling pin to 1½-inch thickness. Cut with a cookie or biscuit cutter. Line a baking sheet with parchment and bake the scones for about 15 to 25 minutes, until firm and browned on the bottom. |

Gift cards are a great way to help your favorite restaurants survive during this trouble time. Gift cards, cookbooks, and t-shirts are available at our online store and are also a great way to help us survive this troubled time. We're including some of our recipes in the emails this week and next but many more are available in our cookbook. |

Reminder of staff GoFundMe pages. Every effort is being made to keep as many of our beloved employees gainfully employed, with as much work as possible. We’ve not only increased hourly pay for our front of house staff, but have maintained hours for back of house and kitchen staff employees. For some of our employees, it is simply best to file for unemployment and we’ve connected them with all the resources to do so. Finally, we’re matching $5,000 to each GoFundMe page set up by employees of our locations at Logan Square and Halsted and encourage you to support them as well. |
