HUMBLE JUMBLE ART SALE

SATURDAY, APRIL 13, 10 AM-4 PM

CAM opens for our annual all-day art sale with 30 artists selling their work in the Reception Hall with a percentage of proceeds to benefit CAM. Many of these artists are teaching artists from CAM's Museum School, some are featured in the Museum Shop, and all are from our local community.

Beginning at 11 AM, four artists will begin hosting 20-minute demonstrations in the courtyard showcasing their work.

The Wilmington Big Band is a 17-piece orchestra dedicated to the preservation of the American original art of big band music. Reminiscent of Wrightsville Beach’s own Lumina Ballroom where true showmen like Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey entertained audiences, the Wilmington Big Band combines a mixture of timeless standards and hip pop tunes that will keep you swinging all night long.

The third in a series of three lectures tracing the history of women in the visual arts from the Prehistoric Era to Impressionism. We’ll explore the accomplishments of women in the arts as well as the barriers women artists have faced for centuries. The series culminates with an in-depth look at the life and career of Mary Cassatt.

ARTWORK DISPLAYED IN THE U.S. CAPITOL

Congressman Daid Rouzer is hosting the NC-07 Congressional Art Competition open to all high school students who reside in North Carolina's seventh district.

Art Accepted: 2-D artwork no larger than 26 inches high, 26 inches wide, and 4 inches deep. No framed piece should weigh more than 15 pounds. Students must have the 2024 Student Release Form secured to your piece.

Theme: Scenes from the District - this can be a landscape, portrait, or still-life among other things.

Deadline: April 19, 2024

Works by Charles Edward Williams

In Stay in the Light, South Carolina artist Charles Edward Williams draws inspiration from historical photography of the Civil Rights movement, offering a contemporary response to social and political issues of the past and present. His paintings and focus on human emotion and our connectedness and commonality. Stay in the Light includes new work created for this exhibition, as well as work from Williams's Sun and Light series.

The Work of Their Hands: American Quiltmaking

The Work of Their Hands explores the continuing legacy of quilt-making and the evolution of textile art, starting with traditional quilts made for bedcoverings to contemporary fabric artworks by artists including Brittney Boyd Bullock, Celeste Butler, Robin Cowley, Michael Cummings, Gee’s Bend quilters, Michael James, Precious Lovell, Katie Pasquini Masopust, Carolyn Mazloomi, Mary Pal, Hattie Schmidt, Beverly Smith, The Advocacy Project, and others.

JAPANESE TEA BOWLS

Instructor: Shannon Gehen

Create a set of Japanese tea bowls for your very own tea ceremony. These will be using hand build slab techniques to create functional tea vessels. All work will be glazed after the workshop. Please allow approximately 3 weeks for pick-up of finished work.
