We cordially invite you to visit our presentation at UNSEEN , from 21-24 September 2023 at the Westergas in Amsterdam. We are excited to present the world premiere of an all-new series by Matthieu Asselin (FR, 1973) paired with the enchanting works by Chloe Sells (US, 1976). Chloe Sells presents a selection of works from her time as one of the last personal assistants to the celebrated cult journalist, Hunter S. Thompson, author of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas : a savage journey to the Heart of the American Dream (1971) and other writings on American politics and life. Sells draws upon this experience to not only depict the intimate home and lifestyle of the author but to also revel in the powerful landscapes of their shared home, Aspen, Colorado. In an expressive series of images, the artist combines documentary works and hand-printed photographs that are overlaid with traditional marbling techniques from Italy and Japan. The result is a series of unique tableaux, as much paintings as photographs: a psychedelic ride through the Rocky Mountains and into the living room of one of the most unconventional minds of the 20th century. |

Matthieu Asselin 's True Colors is influenced by the Dieselgate scandal and reflects on the automobile industry’s destructive relationship with the environment. The project examines how the industry falsely portrays itself as eco-friendly to navigate the urgent socioeconomic and environmental challenges confronting humanity today. It highlights how the traditional concept of individualistic mobility is being questioned like never before in the industry's history. This work has been shortlisted for the Meijburg Art Commission 2023 . The winner will be announced on September 21st. |

BOOKSIGNING RUTH VAN BEEK New publication by Van Zoetendaal Publishers In Ruth van Beek’s new book The Oldest Thing it is ordinary objects that take on a body and life of their own. With a practice that is deeply interwoven into her everyday experience, van Beek looks inward at how her vast archive works. In doing so, she explores the thin borders between studio and domestic life, the repetition of daily tasks, and the origins of her interests in manuals and household books, tracing them all the way back to her mother’s influence. Ruth van Beek will be signing her book at the UNSEEN book market at IDEA Books on Saturday, September 23 at 16:00. The book is 16 x 12 cm and contains 512 pages. Price € 55 |
