The LSU men's basketball team fell from the ranks of the nation's last remaining unbeaten teams with a thud Wednesday night. The No. 16-ranked Tigers fell behind by 17 points early on at No. 11 Auburn and despite several rallies lost 70-55 in their SEC opener. Both teams are now 12-1 overall. The problems LSU coach Will Wade said would keep his team from winning indeed doomed the Tigers: turnovers, transition defense and rebounding. LSU committed 17 turnovers, gave up a season-high amount of points and got outrebounded 43-37. Despite the loss, Wade still praised his team's effort and ability. “I still feel great about this team,” Wade said. “We've got great people, great chemistry. We're built on a rock-solid foundation." Meanwhile, the No. 19 LSU women's basketball team hopes to avoid that same fate as it opens the season with a tough road trip to face No. 13 Georgia on Thursday night in Athens. The game is at 6 p.m. CST and will be streamed on SECNetwork+. There is finally movement with the LSU football coaching staff as the Tigers return to campus briefly before being scheduled to leave Friday for Houston and Tuesday's Texas Bowl against Kansas State. This story by Wilson Alexander lets you know where things stand with LSU's roster and staff for the game against the Wildcats, a staff that now includes Kansas City Chiefs linebackers coach Matt House as defensive coordinator and Robert Steeples, from the Minnesota Vikings, as a defensive assistant. Before we go, yes, the SEC portion of the men's basketball schedule has begun, but not so far gone that Sheldon Mickles' SEC basketball preview is now obsolete. Click to read it here.
