Dear Supporter, Today marks two years since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Thank you to everyone who has donated this week to help Ukrainians rebuild their lives. Your support will provide essentials such as tarpaulins, thermal blankets and solar lamps to communities in need. If you haven’t had a chance to give, please consider making a donation.
Since the war began on 24 February 2022, at least 10,000 people have been killed, and millions have been forced to flee for their lives. Two million homes have been bombed. In frontline areas such as Donetsk and Kharkiv, families are sheltering in damaged homes without water, gas or electricity. Throughout winter, they have faced freezing temperatures and snow. The constant bombardment means they are forced to spend their days in basements. Children cannot go outside, let alone attend school. Last month, Serhii, 57, was injured when a missile landed in the garden of his home in Kryvyi Rih in central Ukraine. “I was in the house when it happened,” says Serhii. “I was shocked. I didn't understand what had just happened. I am lucky because I am alive.” With support from generous donors, Serhii received emergency supplies, counselling and legal aid, and now plans to rebuild his home. Across Ukraine, UNHCR remains on the frontlines, providing life-saving aid to vulnerable families. Our teams are assisting with home repairs, distributing winter relief items such as heaters and blankets, and providing cash to help families buy food, fuel and medicine. But with no end to the war in sight, they are counting on your continued generosity. Thank you for supporting the people of Ukraine over the last two years. Your gifts can provide Ukrainians with safe shelter, emergency supplies and mental health support. Yours sincerely,
Trudi Mitchell CEO
P.S. It’s not too late to send life-saving aid to the people of Ukraine. Donate here if you haven’t yet had a chance.
