World Standards Day 2024: standards and accreditation working together for a better, more sustainable world |
On 14 October the global community comes together to celebrate World Standards Day, a time to recognise the essential role of international standards in creating a more connected, secure, and sustainable world. The theme for 2024, "Our Shared Vision for a Better World", highlights how standards can support the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a specific focus on SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. This year, the spotlight is on how standards drive innovation and sustainability, particularly through fostering global collaboration in the age of artificial intelligence (AI). |

Moorfields Electrophysiology - IQIPS accreditation |
The Electrophysiology department at Moorfields Eye Hospital was granted UKAS accreditation to the IQIPS standard in April 2024. In this latest case study, UKAS talks with Consultant Clinical Scientist and Quality Lead, Dr Magella Neveu, who describes the journey (equally challenging and rewarding) that this department went on in order to gain their grant of accreditation. The case study discusses the processes and learnings, as well as the benefits that have been felt as a result of this accreditation, by both patients and department staff. |

Membership of the Aldersgate Group is by invitation only and must be approved by current members. |

As a new member, UKAS joins existing partners and stakeholders, such as IEMA, Energy Saving Trust, the Forestry Commission and National Grid, as well as many other influential individuals and leading organisations from across the economy. |

Formal recognition of UKAS under Canadian HazLoc Regulation |
In early July UKAS received formal recognition from the Canadian Government to accredit UK Conformity Assessment Bodies as competent to assess conformity with the Canadian HazLoc technical regulation under the Protocol on Conformity Assessment to the TCA. |

Members are chosen to provide balance of representation from government, business organisations, professional institutions and customer groups, all with an interest in quality and accreditation as a means of ensuring and driving confidence and performance in the market. |
