HSE publishes the final restriction opinion for lead in ammunition

HSE, in its role as the agency for UK REACH with support from the Environment Agency, has published its final opinion on managing the risks from lead in ammunition. View the details of the opinion in the registry of restriction intentions on our website.

This follows a 6-month public consultation in 2022 and a similar 60-day consultation on the social and economic aspects of the opinion, which ended last year.

The opinion has been reviewed by a Challenge Panel made up of independent experts from the REACH Independent Scientific Expert Pool (RISEP). The Agency also met stakeholders to listen to their concerns, gather evidence and discuss the restriction proposals.

The Agency has sent its final opinion to the Appropriate Authorities (the Defra Secretary of State and the Scottish and Welsh Governments). The Appropriate Authorities will now consider the proposals and decide whether any further regulatory action under UK REACH is required.
