The Lunch Line: Two of Louisiana's oldest prisoners go free. And good luck finding a roofer

By Bob Warren

Free: Two of Louisiana’s longest-serving prisoners are now free. Our John Simerman reports that the prisoners, who were serving life sentences and are now in their 70s, were set free in new plea agreements with Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams. And, he writes, more could be on the way.

Supply and demand: Looking for a roofer? Get in line (and maybe pack a lunch). Marie Fazio reports today that more than a month after Hurricane Ida tore across the region, roofers are in, uh, high demand. How bad is it? One company even has a voicemail telling prospective customers to not a message because they're so swamped. .

Bock on: If you're a fan of Oktoberfest (and who isn't?) our resident food guy Ian McNulty has just what you're looking for: A handy guide to some area celebrations.

And . . . action! Hollywood South is hopping. Our movie guy Mike Scott writes that 10 shows and movies are either filming or soon will be in and around New Orleans. So keep your eyes peeled -- could be Renée Zellweger or Craig Robinson or Ava Duvernay on the other side of those Ray-Bans.

It's the economy: An annual economic report is out and business writer Kristen Mosbrucker has three things you should know about the New Orleans area's economy.

Grab it: The Pelicans have a home preseason game tonight in the Smoothie King Center. Lots of tickets are available, and columnist Scott Kushner writes that if the team wants attention, it will have to grab it.

And Pels beat writer Christian Clark says another starter could rejoin the lineup for tonight's game.

Hope you enjoyed the Lunch Line. Thanks for taking a break with us today.
