2 accused killers were out on bail. Nothing predicted they shouldn’t have been.

• While two men accused of killings in Bangor and Washington County within days of each other, neither had a felony conviction on their criminal record. There was nothing in either man’s past that a judge, prosecutor or bail commissioner could point to and used to justify holding either man without bail while their cases moved through the court system.

• After voting with fellow Republicans to acquit President Donald Trump of impeachment charges, Sen. Susan Collins of Maine did a round of interviews in which she conceded that her earlier comment that Trump "learned" from impeachment was "aspirational." It led to fresh criticism from Democrats who are vying to face Collins in a nationally targeted 2020 election.

• Data requested by the BDN show the Bangor streets where the most parking tickets have been issued since the city switched to automated enforcement in the fall of 2018.
